At least 24 people were killed and dozens injured as fierce
clashes took place in different areas in Dhaka and other parts of Bangladesh on
the first day of the non-cooperation movement announced by the
Anti-Discrimination Students Movement.

The deceased, identified as
Tutul Chowdhury, was an Awami League leader of Ward 12 in Barishal.
According to eyewitnesses,
the incident occurred around 12:30pm when some protesters attacked him with sharp weapons near Nobogram Road.
At least
five people from both sides were killed in clashes in Feni as Awami League men
attacked protesters today.
Several people were injured
in this incident, reports our correspondent.
Five bodies were taken to
Feni General Hospital from the spot. Their identities were not immediately
available.
Four
people were killed in clashes between ruling party men and protesters of the
anti-discrimination student movement in Rangpur city today.
Abdul Jalil, an official at
the morgue of the Rangpur Medical College and Hospital, confirmed two of the
deaths in the clash to our Dinajpur correspondent.
The identities of the two
deceased could not be found immediately.
Meanwhile, two more people
were killed in a clash between the AL activists and the protesters in the city
this afternoon.
The two deceased are --
Haradhan Roy, president of the Parshuram Thana Awami League and councillor of
Ward 4 in Rangpur City Corporation, and his driver whose name could not be
known.
Protesters declare
long march to Dhaka on Tuesday
The Anti-Discrimination
Student Movement today declared a long march to Dhaka for Tuesday.
Asif Mahmud, one of the key
coordinators of the platform, confirmed the programme to The Daily Star today.
