A tragic plane crash occurred on August 9, 2024, in Vinhedo, São Paulo, Brazil, resulting in the deaths of all 61 people on board. The aircraft, Voepass Linhas Aéreas Flight 2283, was en route from Cascavel to Guarulhos when it crashed into a residential area. Fortunately, no one on the ground was harmed, but the incident led to a large fire at the crash site.
The plane involved was an ATR 72-500, a twin-engine turboprop, and initial reports suggest that the aircraft entered a downward flat spin before crashing. The cause of the crash is still under investigation by Brazilian authorities, including CENIPA, the country's aeronautical accidents investigation body. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has declared three days of national mourning in response to this tragedy.
