In a dramatic twist, the FBI is investigating whether former President
Donald Trump was actually struck by an assassin's bullet or if shrapnel caused
his injury, following explosive claims by FBI Director Christopher Wray. The
probe comes after a shooting incident in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump was
injured while on the campaign trail.
Trump has vehemently criticized the FBI and its director after Wray
suggested during a congressional hearing that it might have been shrapnel, not
a bullet, that grazed Trump’s ear. The FBI is now analyzing fragments found
near the stage to determine the true cause of the injury.
In a heated post on Truth Social, Trump lashed out at Wray, calling his
suggestion absurd and attacking his judgment on various issues, including
President Biden’s mental fitness. "FBI Director Christopher Wray told
Congress yesterday that he wasn’t sure if I was hit by shrapnel, glass, or a
bullet (the FBI never even checked!)," Trump fumed. "But he was sure
that Crooked Joe Biden was physically and cognitively 'uneventful' -
Wrong!"
Trump continued, "No, it was, unfortunately, a bullet that hit my ear,
and hit it hard. There was no glass, there was no shrapnel. The hospital called
it a 'bullet wound to the ear,' and that is what it was. No wonder the once
storied FBI has lost the confidence of America!"
Director Wray, addressing security failures that allowed the gunman to open
fire, told Congress, "With respect to former President Trump, there’s some
question about whether or not it’s a bullet or shrapnel that hit his ear."
He added, "I don't know right now whether that bullet, in addition to
causing the grazing, could have landed somewhere else."
The shooting incident resulted in the tragic death of firefighter Corey
Comperatore, 50, and injured two others, including Trump. The assailant, Thomas
Matthew Crooks, 20, was apprehended at the scene.
Trump has provided detailed accounts of the shooting, describing how bullets
whizzed past him and how a last-minute turn of his head likely saved his life.
"When I went down, bullets were coming over my head and you hear them,
it's like a zip, zip," Trump recalled. "I'm supposed to be dead. The
most incredible thing was that I happened to not only turn but to turn at the
exact right time and in just the right amount."
Despite the chaos, Trump refused to be taken away on a stretcher, insisting
he would "get up" and continue. He was seen later with a bandage over
his ear, reinforcing his account of being hit by a bullet.
As the FBI continues its investigation, the nation watches closely, with
Trump’s supporters rallying behind his narrative and critics awaiting further
clarification on the incident.
