Yunus and Modi Hold Landmark Talks at BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok

Bangkok, Friday: In a significant development on the sidelines of the sixth BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting on Friday, focusing on regional cooperation, economic development, and inclusive growth strategies.

The high-level dialogue brought together two globally respected figures — Professor Yunus, Nobel Laureate and pioneer of microfinance, and Prime Minister Modi, a key leader in South Asia — to explore joint initiatives aimed at empowering communities across the Bay of Bengal region.

Sources close to the meeting revealed that both leaders emphasized the importance of social business, youth entrepreneurship, and sustainable innovation in tackling poverty and inequality in South and Southeast Asia. Discussions also touched on climate resilience, digital transformation, and cross-border collaboration within the BIMSTEC framework.

Their meeting, though brief, was described as “warm and forward-looking,” marking a step toward deeper bilateral and regional partnerships.
