Kolkata: A shocking revelation has stirred both media and law enforcement circles—Bangladeshi model and actress Shanta Pal has been arrested in Kolkata on charges of forging Indian identity documents.
According to police sources, Shanta Pal entered India legally from Barishal, Bangladesh, in 2023 using a valid passport. Later, she began living in a rented apartment in Kolkata’s Jadavpur area, where she allegedly created multiple fake Indian identity cards, including Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, and ration cards.
Investigators found that she had even obtained two different Aadhaar cards—one registered with an address in Kolkata and another in Burdwan. The police suspect she used these forged documents to establish herself as an Indian citizen and possibly acquire property in the city.
Reports also suggest that she might have been involved with a man named Ashraf, with whom she was allegedly planning to buy property jointly.
The Kolkata Police have launched a deeper investigation to uncover how she obtained the fake IDs and whether any local associates or officials were involved in the forgery network.
The arrest of Shanta Pal has raised serious questions about cross-border identity fraud and the growing challenge of monitoring illegal immigration and document forgery between India and Bangladesh.
